FAQ Section: Loading and Saving
  1. Can Poseidon export models in XMI format?
  2. How do I import .xmi files into Poseidon and what formats are supported?
  3. Why does the source import lose attributes?

    It doesn't.

By default, the source import tries to create associations, not attributes, whenever it finds class attributes in a source file. In the 'Java' tab of the 'Import Files' dialog, you can select a preference for attributes or associations.

    The algorithm is as follows:

If 'UML Attributes' has been selected:

    • Create an attribute from a Java member variable.

If 'UML Associations' has been selected:

    • If there is an initial value, make an attribute.
    • If it is a primitive type, make an attribute.
    • Otherwise, make an association.

This algorithm is not perfect. Notably, type information is lost whenever you generate code from an association with multiplicity 0..* and re-import the source code later on. You can prevent that from happening by using Roundtrip Engineering, available in the Professional Edition.

  4. Can I load Poseidon files into ArgoUML?
  5. Can Poseidon import MDL files?
  6. Opening file chooser dialog fails - "Could not bind shell folder to interface"
